Sowing and Growing Broccoli
|
Broccoli is better known these days for its anti-cancer agents and valuable vitamins. Below you will find details of sowing and growing broccoli.
SOWING The main sowing season for your broccoli is April to May. SOWING INSTRUCTIONS Deep: Broccoli seeds should be planted 13mm (0.5 inch) into the soil Broccoli seeds can be sown in trays indoors to start off with. GROWING Once the plants reach a height of 10-15cm (4-6 inches) you can transplant them to their permanent planting positions. Water the plants before and after moving them. Keep the soil moist during dry periods. When the heads start to appear on the nets it may be a good idea to protect the plants with netting, as birds like to pay these plants a visit! HARVESTING Cut before the individual flowers appear. The central spear should be cut first, followed by regular pickings of the sideshoots over a period of 4 to 6 weeks. Enjoy!
